The shock announcement
On 29th June 2009 Aston Martin released a single image of a full size clay model. It showed a small city car with a distinctive, but large, grill, and a full width front spoiler. In the accompanying release it was disclosed that it was based on the Toyota iQ, and that although it would retain the iQ’s engine and running gear it would feature Aston’s own bespoke interior.

How many cars were produced?
The common misconception is that only 150 cars were ever produced; however, this number is most likely based upon DVLA data base for those registered in UK. The Table below is the Cygnets sold in Europe (including UK). Additional cars were sold in the Far East making an exact number difficult to define.
According to the DVLA there are currently 132 Cygnets left in the UK with an MOT, with an average mileage of between 10k miles and 27k miles.
The cars sold in 2010 (the first year of production) have only averaged 200 miles per year, while those sold in 2011 and 2012 average 2600 miles per year consistent with their routine use. Cars sold in 2013 and 2014 are used on average 750 miles a year.
